Turtles animals typically require a diet of wild grasses, herbs, green leafy vegetables and some flowers. Some species eat worms and insects and carrion in the wild. Excess protein is harmful herbivorous species and has been associated with shell deformities and other medical problems. How many turtle species vary greatly in their nutritional needs are critical to thoroughly examine the food needs of an individual turtle.
